All –

I’ve had to make several changes to the practice schedule. Apologies in advance if any of the changes cause scheduling issues for you.

Weekday practices will now start at 5:15 and we will start with shot put (discus at 6:20). The high school practices have been running later. As I’m coaching the shot putters, starting at shot will allow for a smoother transition even when Farmington’s throwers are wrapping up.

Farmington HS has their League Meet on Thursday May 9th. I’ve moved Thursday’s practice to Wednesday the 8th.

My daughter is competing at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships on Friday (May 10th) and Sunday (May 12th). I’ve moved Sunday’s 3-5:00 practice to Saturday (May 11th).

Practices are currently scheduled though the end of May. Once we get to June, I’ll pick up the cadence and add separate sessions for javelin and hammer. I’ll work on that schedule over the next couple of weeks.

Our MPTC alums have been busy over the last few weeks with final tune-up meets before their conference championships. Jake got back on track with the hammer after a rough couple of weeks. Clayre hit a pair of seasonal bests in shot and discus (both very close to her PRs). Val has been on fire the last two weeks. It’s been a rough spring, but she has really started to put it together. Val’s had back to back seasonal bests in discus (approaching her PR) and hit new PRs in hammer the last two meets. Her 56.75m bomb from Thursday has her within a meter of qualifying for the East Regional. Hopefully she can stay on the PR train at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships.

The Spartan women hammer throwers put on a show at GVSU. Haley Guerrant (Fr) had a 1 meter PR (49.21m), Erianna Hubbard (RS-Fr) had a 4 meter PR (53.26m), Elle Adrain (RS-Soph) had a 1.5 meter PR (55.26m), Val (Jr) added almost 2 meters (56.75m) and Quiara Wheeler (post collegiate at MSU) had a seasonal best of (60.88m). Those last 3 marks came on consecutive throws in round 4. The excitement and energy was awesome!

The high school throwers that I worked with this winter are several weeks into their high school seasons. Below, I’ve listed their best marks so far. As you can see, they are crushing it (hitting PRs in 13 of 20 opportunities)!  Robbie has gotten off to a hot start going over 160ft in discus and 50ft in shot. I’m most impressed with his 7.5ft improvement in shot put! Ian broke the 120ft barrier in discus and Ryan broke the 100ft and 110ft barriers in discus! Ryan has also added 3.5ft to his PR in shot. Donovan continued with where he left of the indoors, continuing to move his PR’s out in both shot and discus. Addison broke 31ft in shot and Lily is getting closer to that 100ft barrier. Great marks to kick off the season.
