Based on a tip from Jennifer, I learned about a meet being held across the river in Windsor Canada that was willing to entertain an older “Yank” thrower. 😊 After driving 4.5 hours each way last weekend to get some throws in, the 45-minute commute this morning was much appreciated. I had a small improvement in shot over the previous weekend with more consistency (4 of 6 throws between 11.95m and 12.11m). I gave up a little distance in weight. Time to start working on re-adding the 3rd turn.

Coach Toby      – 12.11m (39’ 8.75”) – 1st Place 55-59yr shot put

                       – 13.52m (44’ 4.25”) – 1st Place 55-59yr weight

It was a quick in and out this morning at the LAB. Many opted to skip this meet as there was no discus today, but we had two signed up that were hoping to punch their ticket to the MITS State Meet. Unfortunately, Addison (who was on a 3 meet PR streak) came up ill a few days ago and had to miss.

Maggie’s youth indoor season wrapped up last week so we decided to see if she could qualify for the MITS high school state meet as a 7th grader. After one practice with the heavier 4kg shot put, she gave it a go today. Maggie had a strong series ([30'8.25" 30'1.5" 31'1.24" 28'4.5"]). While she didn’t hit the 32ft auto-qualifying mark, her 3rd round toss was a new MPTC 13yr old 4kg shot put record (breaking Val’s record by 7.75”)!

Maggie Kandt   – 31’ 1.25” – 7th place 4kg shot (high school division) – PR

I got a surprise call from Val on Thursday. We were expecting to head down to UofM on Friday to see her throw unattached at her last indoor meet of the season. After getting her MCAT scores and talking with her coaches, she decided that she wasn’t going to retake the test in March and instead was going to pull her redshirt and compete with the team on Friday at GVSU and more significantly, compete at the Big Ten Indoor Championships next weekend!

Val matched her PR from her last meet on the way to winning the weight throw. Her mark has her sitting in 45th nationally in division 1 (16th in the big Ten). She’ll need to hit a big one next weekend to make finals.

So far, I’m not seeing any results from our other collegiate throwers. I’ll update as additional results post.
