Bad weather led to the high school youth meet at the LAB getting cancelled but fortunately the masters meet @ Lewis University in Illinois on Sunday was still on. After a particularly good practice with the weight on Wednesday, I really wanted to get into a meet to put a new mark in the books so I decided to brave the roads. There were times during the drive when I questioned my decision (driving by brail between the rumble strips with minimal visibility for about 50 miles) but fortunately made it safely.

I had a good day with the weight with all 6 throws over 13m. I broke my old PR in round 2 and then moved that mark out to 13.94m (45’ 8.75”) in round 3. I ended up with 3 of 6 throws over my old PR. Shot was a mess (couldn’t find the center of the ball). My best came off only one finger. I’ll get back to work and figure it out.

Coach Toby     – 13.94m (45’ 8.75”) – 2nd Place 55-59yr weight – PR

                       – 11.88m (38’ 11.5”) – 1st Place 55-59yr shot put

Maggie took a road trip over the holidays to compete in an outdoor meet down in Winter Park, Florida (near Orlando). She had solid marks in shot put and discus and also got to throw the 600g (real) javelin for the first time! She was the best 13yr old in all 3 events placing 2nd in both shot & discus and 3rd in javelin in the 13-14yr old division. Looking forward to watching her and Zoe throw the real stick this summer.

Maggie Kandt – 11.78m (38’ 7.75”) – 2nd Place 13-14yr shot put

29.07m (95’ 4”) – 2nd Place 13-14yr discus - SR

26.02m (85’ 4”) – 3rd Place 13-14yr javelin (600g) - PR
