A couple of our throwers took part in the first indoor meet of the season at the LAB. The LAB only held shot put this weekend, but Teegan and Maggie made the most of it, hitting new PRs. Tegan broke 51ft for the first time and Maggie broke the 40ft barrier. Her toss was nearly a 2ft PR! Great early start to the indoor season for both!!

Teegan Simmons – 51’ 1.25” (shot 2nd) – PR

Maggie Kandt – 40’ 4.5” (6lb shot) – PR

A few of our MPTC alumni kicked off their indoor seasons this weekend. Val is redshirting the indoor season but will be throwing unattached at several meets. She opened her 3rd season by tying her PR in weight. Her mark of 19.38m is currently the #18 throw in division 1!

GVSU Holiday Open – 8Dec’23:

Valadian Pallett – 63’ 7” (19.38m) – 2nd place weight (Elite) – tied PR

Lindsey Strutz – 36’ 7” (11.15m) – 12th Place shot put (open)

Eastern Illinois Early Bird – 8Dec’23:

Clayre Shaver – 47’ 9.75” (14.57m) – 2ndplace weight

– 40’ 10.25” (12.45m) – 2nd place shot

Thanks to the early scheduling of the Michigan Indoor Senior Olympics, I was the first to kick off the 2023-24 indoor season for the club!

Going into the meet, I had two weeks to get prepared after a nice vacation down in the Caribbean. It was my first time touching a shot since August and my practice distances weren’t very good, so I didn’t have high expectations. Fortunately, I ended throwing better than expected with two throws over 12m. I didn’t break 40ft but my best throw of 12.17m (39’ 11”) exceeded the US Master’s All-American standard and was good for first place in the 55-59yr age group.
