I think I finally have a handle on this winters practice schedule. We will fortunately be able to get back into the St. Joe's dome, EMU and Macomb. Unfortunately the dome practices start earlier this year which will make it more difficult for kids to get there on time after school. Macomb is also moving to a M/W schedule which aligns with EMU. When there are conflicts, I will go to EMU on Mondays and Macomb on Wednesdays. That has been reflected on the club website (just make sure you pay attention to the location each night).

Last year I collected a per practice fee to contribute to the hosting clubs to help with rental expenses. I want to avoid that if possible. Macomb is easy as they collect the $5 fee at the door. For the other two sites, if you give me a rough idea of how many at each site you are planning to attend, I'll figure out a one time payment to cover it (not to exceed what the hosting clubs charge their kids for the season, ~$150).

Location Details:

(a) Eastern Michigan with Dearborn Track Club (M/W 7:30-9:00, shot & weight)

---> We are only guaranteed to be able to throw from 8-9:00. I'm hoping to expand that. In the

meantime, we'll meet at 7:30 to warm up an do drills until the circle opens.

(b) Schoolcraft Dome with Six Mile Track Club (M/W 2:45-4:15, shot, discus, weight, javelin balls)

(c) Macomb Community College (primarily W, 7:00-9:00, shot & weight)

---> We will plan on shot from 7-8:00 and then transition to weight.

Reminder: Before attending practice, please renew your AAU memberships and send me your new membership number. This provides us with some minimum practice insurance. See earlier post regarding getting your AAU membership and associating it with our club.

I think that covers it. Let me know if you have any questions/concerns.

Looking forward to getting back at it.

Just when I thought the outdoor season was over, Jennifer found a final outdoor meet hosted by the Spire Institute. She went out with a bang competing in the throws pentathlon and 5 open events. All totaled, she had 35 meet throws (4 for each open event and another 3 for each pentathlon event). Wow! She was rewarded for her efforts & results with six 1st place finishes.

Jennifer – 26’ 3.5” – 1st place shot – SR (outdoor PR)

– 50’ 11” – 1st place javelin

– 77’ 6’ – 1st place discus

– 94’ 7” – 1st place hammer

– 29’ 7.25” – 1st place weight (16lb)

– 1661 pts – 1st place throws pentathlon

**** Update 18Sep'23 ****

Due to conflicts with field availability on Wednesdays, I've moved the 2nd practice to Thursdays.

**** Update 4Sep'23 ****

I've posted a two day schedule to get us started. Tues (shot/jav) and Wed (discus/hammer). Hammer will eventually become weight throw. I will look to add a 3rd day based on feedback of those attending.

I suspect that we'll have very few people attending this fall so please make sure to RSVP if you planning a specific practice. I will likely cancel if no one RSVP's. Thanks.

I hope you all have been enjoying these last few days of summer before school resumes. I know I've been enjoying the break after a particularly busy 8-9 months of coaching and throwing. I even got back into my wood shop for the first time in months!

I know many of you moved right from summer track into your fall sports. For those that aren't doing a fall sport and are looking to work on your craft in preparation for next season, I’m looking to run a short 5-week session from Sept 5th through Oct 5th. To help me set it up, please let me know if you are interested and what events you want to work on. No need to reply if you aren’t available/interested in attending. Once I have that feedback, I’ll get a schedule posted. I’m tentatively planning on 3 days a week with two events per practice.
