For those attending the AAU JO, I'm going to use this post to collect any pertinent information.

Travel Plans:

My current plan to to drive to Des Moines on Saturday the 29th and leave the morning of August 3rd (Thursday). Unfortunately I will miss Aria throwing turbo jav on Friday.

Bibs, Wrist Band & Swag Pick-up:

I will pick up my coaches credentials and the bibs, wrist bands & swag for Maggie and Joe first thing Sunday morning before heading over for Zoe throwing shot in the pentathlon. Let me know when Maggie and Joe get into town and we'll make arrangements to get them to you.

Practice Location in Des Moines:

Valley High School (1099 39th St., West Des Moines, IA 50266)

We've had good luck the last 3 trips to Des Moines with availability here and it's just far enough away from the stadium to not be too crowded. Circles are on the west side of the stadium with a large field for javelin. There is a parking lot off 39th Street at the school on the north side of the circles.

Practices are tentatively scheduled for 6:00-8:00 on Sun-Tues evenings. Let me know if you are planning to come and what events. Based on that, I will schedule the specific event times.

Emergency Notification System:

Stay up to date with weather alerts and other emergencies by signing up to receive emergency alerts during events at Drake Stadium. Text DRAKEAAU23 to 77295 to receive alerts during AAU Junior Olympic Games events.

Jennifer was our sole representative at the National Senior Games in Pittsburgh. Being a Steelers fan, it hurt a little to miss this one. Jennifer represented the club well with 2 PRs (javelin and discus) and 4 top 8 finishes (2 top 3 finishes)! I would say that was a very successful competition!

Jennifer – 54’ 4” (16.56m) – 7th place 50-54 javelin – PR

– 87’ 6” (26.67m) – 3rd place 50-54 hammer

– 25’ 7.75” (7.82m) – 5th place shot (outdoor PR)

84’ 8” (25.80m) – 2nd place discus – PR

Several of us braved the rain and headed over to Oak Park today. It wasn’t that bad in the morning (light sprinkles) but it definitely got heavier in the afternoon for the older kids.

Highlights from the younger throwers in the morning were big PRs in shot from Zoe (well over 2 ft) and Aria (1.5ft). Maggie was very solid in shot and discus (rediscovering the form in javelin is still a work in progress). As I start to look at performance lists for the JO, all 3 are putting themselves in good position to compete for medals in a few weeks.

Highlights from the older throwers in the afternoon was a nice PR for Torran in shot put (great to see the recent improvement in practice carry-over into the meet) and while not a PR, I was very happy with Teegan’s 155’ 5” discus throw in the rain.

Maggie – 90’ 10” – 1st place 11-12yr discus

– 36’ 6” – 1st place 11-12yr shot

– 72’ 8” – 1st place 11-12yr 400g turbo javelin

Zoe – 34’ 9” – 2nd place 11-12yr shot – PR

Aria – 20’ 1” – 1st place 8u 300g turbo javelin

16’ 11” – 1st place 8u shot – PR

Teegan – 155’ 5” – 1st place 15-16yr discus

– 46’ 7” – 1st place 15-16yr shot

Torran – 98’ 8” – 3rd place 15-16yr discus

35’ 4” – 3rd place 15-16yr shot – PR
