While our younger throwers were in action at Wayne State this weekend, Jennifer was repping the USA at the Pan-American Masters Games. She had a huge 2-meter PR in hammer and came home with two 3rd place medals!

Sat July 20th – Genesee Swift Invitational (Carman-Ainsworth MS, Flint) – Youth (shot, discus & javelin/turbo javelin) --> 4 attempts / no finals

For those new to the AAU JO, this is an 8-day meet but your athlete will not need to be there the whole time (especially if they aren’t taking part in the multi-events in addition to open throws). Please see the schedule at this link to find out when they would throw. Let me know if you have any questions/concerns. This will be my 15th AAU JO & 6th trip to Greensboro for a big meet (2 AAU JOs, 1 USATF JO and 2 New Balance HS Nationals).
With Motor City cancelling their meet this year due to on-going facility upgrades at Oak Park High School, everyone was down at Wayne State for the Courageous Games on Sunday. For me it was a bit of Déjà vu to last spring, parking on Trumbull Street next to the Wayne State throwing circles at 8:00am.
The weather forecast called for rain but we missed all but a few light drops in the morning and by the end of the day, people were looking for shade and complaining about how warm it was! Sonja and Sharee limited warm-ups and with only 3 competition throws, things moved along quickly. Highlights from the day include a double PR from Gabriel (both still from stands), a big PR from Addison in shot, Zoe going over 37ft again. After spraining her ankle on Wednesday, I wasn’t sure how Maggie would look but she was moving good and had another strong outing (another high 100ft throw in discus and over 40ft in shot).
After having last weekend off, it was good to get back to competition (especially with the AAU JO a few short weeks away). I’m seeing some good signs. We just need to dial things in over these last few days of practice.
