Last year, I was the last one in action from the club. This year I was joined by fellow masters thrower, Jennifer. We did our best to uphold the standard set by our youth throwers and brought home some hardware (6 golds and 1 silver). Jennifer had a PR in discus on a line drive (more distance to come in this event) and broke her outdoor PR in shot put again (slowly closing the gap on her indoor mark set at USATF Indoor Nationals). She also had her second-best outing of the season with the hammer. My distances weren’t as good (especially hammer where I left my best throw in warmups despite only taking two warm up throws!). Maybe next year I will skip warmups and go in cold!?
Overall, it was a good season for me. I was able to compete in 6 outdoor meets and I exceeded the US Masters All-American Standard for shot put, discus and hammer (the latter two only because they reduced the standards a few years ago). Next year I’ll shoot again for the original standard in all 3!

Jennifer:
Javelin – 49’ 2” (1st, 50-54yr)
Hammer – 89’ 7” (1st, 50-54yr)
Shot Put – 7.89m (2nd, 50-54yr) – SR (outdoor PR)
Discus – 86’ 2” – PR (1st, 50-54yr)
Toby:
Hammer – 108’ 9” (1st, 55-59yr)
Shot Put – 38’ 8.5” (1st, 55-59yr)
Discus – 126’ 6” (1st, 55-59yr)
