Thanks to the GLIAC outdoor championships being a week ahead of the Big Ten’s, I was able to spend the whole time with my Wayne State squad. Overall, I was VERY happy with the results. Richelle and Dalia kicked us off in the multi-events, going 3 for 4 with PRs in shot and javelin. Under coach Nate Miller’s guidance, they were able to post the #4 and #5 all-time best heptathlon results for Wayne State! In the open throws, Izzy was the star of the show. She placed in 3 events (only 2nd Warrior all-time to do that), had PR’s in 2 of 3 events (added another foot to her PR in shot and almost 2.5 feet to her PR in hammer), moved to #5 all-time in hammer, and scored 10 points for the team! That’s the way to close out your collegiate career!! T went out on a high note as well. She was dealing with an injury all season that really impacted her ability to train with the javelin. She battled all spring and came up with a big PR in javelin (first trip over 110ft) for our highest finish in the throws (4th). While she was managing things at javelin, she not so quietly moved up to #8 all time in hammer this spring and made us coaches have some long conversations about which 3 hammer throwers to enter! Kaleigh closed out the year with another 47m throw in hammer. She has also been dealing with an injury that restricted her to hammer (no shot or discus) and limited the number of practice throws. Hopefully surgery to clean things up goes well and lets her finish out her WSU throwing career with a bang next spring.
