Magsig-Pallett Throwing Club
This was a weekend off for most of our club throwers with Maggie being the only one competing. She posted solid marks at the Grand Rapids Fire Invitational.
Grand Rapids Invitational @ Houseman Field – 8Jul’23:
Maggie – 36’ 4.5” – 1st place 11-12yr shot

After cancellation of the AAU district meet, a change of venue from Renaissance HS to Ypsilanti Community HS and then cancellations of the multi events on Thursday & Friday due to bad air quality from the Canadian fires, it was good to be able to finally kick off the road to the AAU National JO in Des Moines.
Highlights from day 1 include a double PR from Joe (shot & discus) and PRs from Teegan (shot) and Jordyn (discus). We also had 4 regional champions (Teegan 3 for 3 and Jordyn in discus). Most importantly, every one of our club throwers placed in the top 6 which qualifies them for the AAU National Junior Olympics.
Highlights from day 2 include a PR from Maggie in discus (broke 100ft 3 times), a PR for Zoe in shot put (broke 32ft 3 times) and a double PR for Aria (shot & javelin). We also had 5 regional champions (Maggie 3 for 3 and Aria 2 for 2). Most importantly, every one of our younger club throwers placed in the top 6 (none lower than 2nd) which qualifies them for the AAU National Junior Olympics. Over the two days, we went 18 for 18!

Our club throwers were again spread out this weekend. A few of us competed at the Meijer State games of Michigan where we went 10 for 10 with first place finishes! Jennifer tied her PR in javelin and added over 9ft to her PR in hammer. I finally broke out of my slump in shot going over 39ft twice (including one that was off only one finger) and managed to throw my normal bad at hammer (instead of embarrassing myself as I did at the USATF MI Open/Master meet). Some day this old dog is going to learn how to throw the hammer properly!
Several of the Waza throwers that train with us took part in the Blazers Invitational that was held back at Albion College which has a really nice track venue. Highlights of the meet were PRs from Torran, William, Zoe and Aria in javelin, Aria hitting a new PR in shot and Teegan, Torran and William sweeping 15-16yr old javelin. Jordyn took part in the USATF Michigan Association Youth Regional Qualifier meet where she came home with a 1st in hammer and a pair of seconds in shot & discus.
