Zoe kicked off the school season championship “weekend” by winning the Oakland County Middle School Championship in shot put! She also placed in 55m hurdles (6th) and 400m (8th).
With Robbie and Teegan competing at the D-1 state meet, I decided to make a weekend of it (see some family on the west-side of Michigan and check out the meet). In addition to watching Robbie and Teegan, I was able to catch up with some of my Track & Field friends and got to see some really strong performances like the guys having to throw 55ft just to place 8th in shot (and a final come from behind 59 footer for the win)! Good stuff! The wet weather held off for the most part until the finals of boys discus where steady rain prevented what might have been another exciting finish in discus. Robbie hit a big PR of 169’ 3” in prelims that was good for 4th place (All-State). Teegan exorcized some state meet demons to get his first marks in discus at the state meet. He placed 6th (All-State) and made a bid for the title with a very long 6th round toss in the pouring rain that just curved outside the left sector line. Next year will be his year!

The lead-in week to the high school state meet is always a relatively quiet week for our high school throwers. I see Robbie hit a huge 2.5ft PR in shot (54’ 4”) and Nate moved his PR in discus out over 105ft. Maggie and Zoe have continued to crank out big marks on the middle school circuit. Both improved their school records. Maggie even got the summer season off to an early start. She set a new PR in discus at 104’ 4” at the Coach P Summer Games in Toledo over the Memorial Day weekend.
